A strategic initiative linking higher education with innovation ecosystems.
The UNIHUBS Project at KNUST is designed to bridge the gap between higher education and the digital innovation ecosystem, while preparing students with the practical, future-oriented skills needed to thrive in an evolving world of work.
Funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education framework, UNIHUBS links Higher Education Institutions with Digital Innovation Hubs across Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, and Europe so universities can modernize educational approaches, respond to labour market needs, and improve graduate employability.
About the UNIHUBS Project
UNIHUBS is built on one central idea: universities and innovation ecosystems should work hand in hand. Instead of treating academic learning and practical experimentation as separate worlds, the project brings them together through curriculum enhancement, educator development, action learning, co-creation of educational materials, and international collaboration.
The KNUST Dimension
As one of Ghana's leading science and technology universities, KNUST brings interdisciplinary strength across engineering, science, business, arts, education, and technology. UNIHUBS helps the university embed digital fluency, problem-solving, entrepreneurial thinking, collaboration, and employability more intentionally into the student experience.
A Partnership for Innovation and Impact
Within the wider UNIHUBS network, KNUST works with local and international partners across Africa and Europe. This collaboration strengthens the university's international profile while deepening local relevance through shared learning, joint innovation, and practical pathways for educational transformation.
What UNIHUBS Seeks to Achieve
Relevant, Future-Facing Education
UNIHUBS helps universities align teaching, curricula, and student support with the demands of the digital innovation economy so graduates are academically prepared and professionally competitive.
Stronger University-Hub Connections
The project creates a stronger interface between universities and Digital Innovation Hubs, making it easier for students to move from theory to practice and for institutions to stay close to real-world change.
Employability Through Action Learning
By emphasizing digital innovation, entrepreneurial capacity, and hands-on learning, UNIHUBS prepares students to create value, lead innovation, and contribute meaningfully to society and the economy.
